25 Days of Zen - Holiday Edition

Hello!

Here at Zen Shmen we're kicking off 25 days of Zen for the holidays.  Welcome!

Each day in December all the way up till Christmas, you'll find a new little tips and ideas being added to the list - all with the goal of keeping you calm and on track when your nerves are being frayed this holiday season.

I know I can easily get overwhelmed by everything there is to do and I start to stress out, (not to mention absorb other people's stress) all of which drastically eats away at my enjoyment of this season.  I find that when everybody's trying so damn hard to be joyful, the result isn't very joyful at all.  Hence this list: a remedy to all that.

So come back and get your zen again tomorrow!

Something about this is just so simple yet speaks to me on a profound level.  We're doing this again for our kids this year, and really look forward to it.  They're still small (the eldest will celebrate her 3rd Christmas this year) so the timing is good to establish this tradition.

Not only does it manage expectations, but we're also trying to teach our kids about gratitude at a time when so much is taken for granted.

This teaches kids kindness, compassion and giving back.  Oh and it also helps declutter our mountains of toys and clothes.  I like!

I did this last year - it honestly took about 90 seconds and we got to use them all again.  It saves so much money!  (I don't recommend ironing out the plastic mesh kind or anything with sparkles, but regular satiny or grosgrain ribbon works perfectly for this.)

It's the perfect prescription to erase any signs of a bad mood, happy chuckles guaranteed.  One of our all-time favourites!

I'm not much of a baker myself - just an amateur - but I know sometimes people feel like they're trapped in the traditions they started, fearful that they'll 'let everybody down' if they don't maintain them.  Well here's a newsflash: traditions can evolve!  Oh and, if you're the type to want to maintain the status quo every year from now until forever, maybe don't bake 18 batches of 20 different cookies ;-)

Whether you celebrate this evening, tomorrow morning, or for the next 7 days, just remember to not rush through it.  Soak up the chaos and mess.  Life is messy sometimes.  Enjoy!
